After successfully booking a trip with Backroads, I shipped out to New Zealand with several other travelers. On the first day we went for a 15 mile back ride with the others in the tour. On the second day we were treated to a comfortable van ride. On the third day we were working on bike mechanics when one of Backroads' employees lost his water bottle. After asking each guest on the tour if they had seen his "vintage" Backroads water bottle he still couldn't figure out where it was. Later that night he found one of the guests drinking out of his water bottle. After grabbing it out of the guest, he explained to the guest that the guest was in the wrong. When the guest claimed ignorance the tour guide went on poke fun at the guest (not in a nice way) for not being able to distinguish between his "vintage" water bottle the newer ones given to the other guests. Something that really didn't seem like a big deal to to the guests turned into a very uncomfortable situation. I guest the tour guide really felt superior to us (the guests) and wanted to make us sure we didn't do anything to upset him in the future.
