We needed a slab of concrete to connect our wheelchair ramp to the driveway. We had some boards as a temporary fix, but they were warped. I called Carlos, who seemed like a really nice guy, and received a very reasonable bid. He said he would come at the end of the week, so I took out the boards and prepared the site. We were willing to function without the ramp for a short time. By Friday evening, Carlos never showed. I called and he apologized for not making it. He said he would be there on Tuesday or Wednesday of the next week. By Thursday of that week, he hadn't shown. I called and explained for the second time that this is for a wheelchair ramp and that I was getting pretty upset because my stepson needs a ramp for his wheelchair. He became upset, told me I should call somebody else, and hung up on me. If this were just for a patio or post holes, it would have been an inconvenience. However, a wheelchair ramp is not a matter of convenience, it's a necessity. Really, I should thank Carlos; his lack of both reliability and professionalism made me furious enough to decide to do it myself with the help of family and friends. We saved hundreds of dollars.Those considering hiring Carlos Concrete should choose between two alternatives: save a little and do it yourself, or pay a little more for somebody who will show up and do the job that they say they will do, when they schedule it.
