Camp Tamarack was started in 1950, as a sister camp to the Fresh Air Camp on Blaine Lake in Roseville, Mich. It was to be called Camp Tamarack, after Tamarack Hills Farms, which occupied 1250 acres. Campers live in different villages according to age and gender. Teen travel trips originated in 1975. Two trips, one headed west, the other east, provided travel and outdoor camping experiences for older teenagers. The Western Trip still being used today. In 1982, the Alaskan Adventure Trip was added. After the summer of 1993, Camp Tamarack at Brighton was closed, due to the infringing development. Tamarack Camps serves approximately 1,200 campers each summer. Camp Tamarak is still affiliated with the Fresh Air Society, one of the largest camps in North America.
