Provided by YPmobileI was in the hospital in severe pain at Southeast Hospital. My doctor was out of town and another doctor who had never seen me decided I needed to see a pain specialist. I was ok with that decision because I thought he would help with lowering the pain meds and seeing if everything would be able to be controlled by pill and getting out of the hospital. Dr Reis was, unfortunately for me, the doctor on call. The first time he came in to see me I was asleep and he spoke with my wife and mother. Dr Reis had said he was there to help and get things back tolerable. Everything was ok at that time except he was placing notes in my chart that he had spoken to me and I was begging him for more pain meds through the IV and that I had asked him to increase the dose. I was livid when I seen the notes in my chart and the man never spoke with me. The next day he came in and I asked why he had said this and he said because another doctor had told him I was only there to get high and I was addicted to pain meds. Dr Reis then asked me a few questions and I asked him if I could be taken off the pain med IV and he advised no but he would start tapering down the dosage with a self administer pain med control. Dr Reis then began to talk about seeing him outside of the hospital and being a patient of his. He was willing to help with some new pain management things such as nerve ablation and other non-narcotic option which my family and I was very happy about to get something to help beside pills. Dr Reis left the room and about 15 minutes later my nurse came in and told me that Dr Reis did not want to see me any longer and that he would not be accepting me as his patient. When a doctor writes something in your medical records then that is permanent and it cannot be removed according to the hospital. Dr Reis wrote that I begged him for more pain meds and asked him several times again for more narcotics and higher dosage. He placed the notes again when he actually spoke with me and I asked him to take me off of narcotics.
If you are thinking of seeing this doctor make sure it's a last resort. He not only lied about talking to me the first day he came in, but apparently I was begging him for more drugs. My family was in the room along with a nurse when this had happened. Also if I was a pain med seeker and addicted wouldn't you think I would be a frequent visitor of the ER either at Southeast or St Francis?
I would not want myself nor any of my family members to be a patient of Dr Reis or the Brain and Neurospine. If you hire doctors like this than what are your other physicians like. I will be filing a complaint with the AMA and Missouri Attorney General.
Based on the details shared in this anonymous posting I am not sure if this was from an actual patient of mine. If it was in fact a patient due to HIPAA privacy laws I would not be able to discuss any treatment related information online. All of us at Regional Brain & Spine strongly encourage patients to contact us directly with any treatment issues or questions. We take all patient concerns very serious. Christopher Reis, DO
