Associated Builders and Contractors Florida East Coast Chapter, headquartered in Coconut Creek, Fla., represents the interests of commercial, industrial and institutional merit shop contractors, suppliers and industry professionals in Florida. The chapter has been active in building homes for the Habitat for Humanity group, in helping rebuild facilities for the Vinceremos Riding Center for handicapped children and giving bicycles to South Florida children through organizations, such as Kids in Distress, Boys and Girls Club, and Children's Home Society. It is a part of Associated Builders and Contractors, an association representing more than 20,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms in over 80 chapters throughout the United States. ABC's membership represents various specialties within the U.S. construction industry and is comprised primarily of firms that perform work in the industrial and commercial sectors of the industry. ABC has full-time professional legislative staff at the chapter level, to interface with local government, as well as in Tallahassee, Fla. and Washington, D.C. The association provides professional training to supervisors and management staff and a full program of craft training for the trades.
