The dogs kennels are very clean that's about all i can say. I walked in to look at the dogs and a teenage girl just stood there staring at me no hello or anything. Asked where the dogs were she pointed. As i looked at the dogs an older blonde woman with short hair walked by i smailed and said hi and she just gave me a strange look and spoke to the few of the dogs. I went back to the main area and asked about how to go about adopting one of the tan pitbull mixes and the blonde older woman cut me off and said "Do you own your own property?" I said "well no" and before i could even explain that i was with my parents she barked at me that i can't adopt unless i have my own home or get my landlord in here to adopt the dog. I was taken aback. Politeness goes a long way and i can see if there are a lot of punks or irresponsible people coming into the facility expecting to just bring home a dog that the staff could get sick of that but nonetheless, an attitude is unnecessary.

I have grown up adopting several pets from the SPCA, and always telling friends and family how much better it is to adopt from the shelter than anything else! I moved to Rupert, and quickly realized the cat population was out of control. We found a littler of kittens in the garage, which is also completely ruined due to cat urine. So long story short the local SPCA wasn't accepting cats, so we ended up with a several that I did not want or could afford. The one kitten became pregnant quicker than I ever imagined and gave birth to four. So they are all feeding on their own and I stopped at the SPCA to see if I can bring my kittens and the mother because I DO NOT WANT CATS! I saw several open cages. Today I took them, one day later and was told that appointment only. And even w the mother they need to be 8 wk old. I again saw several open cages. I am at my wits end. This is a serious problem and something has to be done. I will make an appointment because I have no other option but this is a disgrace.

Great Environment

I have been volunteering there recently and I think it is a great place to get volunteer hours as a college student. The animals are really sweet and the workers are very nice.

feel sorry for the animals that are dropped here

Who knew that members of the SPCA could be so rude... I have had 2 bad experiences with the Danville spca and feel horrible for those animals that are dropped off there. If the volunteers people skills are as horrible as their animal skills I think they need to get some new people. Found the perfect dog and was told very rudely couldn't adopt and was never given a reason why or how this could be fixed. Very horrible experience and I was just trying to do the right thing by adopting instead of by from a breeder.

I saw the other day that they ...

I saw the other day that they had standard poodle puppies for adoption, so I called them up and explained to them about how I'm currently living with my parents until my house is done being built and asked if my parents would have to come with since I don't yet have my house. They said no I just needed my drivers license. The next day I drive over an hour to danville to see the puppies. They had one female left and told them I would like that one. Since the lobby was full with people they had me sit in the back with the dogs and fill out my paper. As I'm filling out my application an older man comes in all mad that there are no females left and making a big sence and pouting about it. I then take my application out to the people out front and they look at it and said I live with my parents and they have to be here. really? your kidding me I called about it the other day! So I told her called the other day about it. I argued with her about it until I was just so disqusted with how rude these people were being that I just left. I got in my car and my boyfriend started to drive me home. On the way home he told me as he was waiting in the loby for me he over heard the old mans wife that was pouting about there being no more females was offering to pay them more money for that dog and he thought thats why they didn't give it to me, but he didn't want to make a huge scene about it so he didn't tell me in there!

I have visited many shelters in my years and never have I dealt with such rude people in my life. The volenteers in the back were sweet as can be but the people up front are just horrible! I truthfully feel horrible for all the dogs that are in that shelter and feel they just want rid of them for the money...If you have to get rid of your animal I do not suggest to bring it here. Look around at other shelters whos goals are actually to find their dogs loving homes.

A few times a yr my family and I drop off money donations during a brief visit. My mom passed away a week ago with special instructions for us to collect cash contributions for the well being of animals. I purchased large bags of dog and cat food for this shelter, but when I dropped it off they were quite rude. I felt awful because I did this in my mom's memory. My daughter and I received no offer of assistance and no thank you....we were told to "just put them there"...nothing more. We were shocked and walked out. No, they were not busy and there were several people behind the desk. I recall working at an animal hospital receiving newspapers as donations...I always thanked our customers!

Very poor impression. Attendants are rude and did not seem interested in helping with my situation. Office is cluttered - to say the least. Was threatened with $500 fine if I'd left my cats I am unable to care for properly anymore. If you must find shelter for your animal, I strongly urge you to find somewhere other than this facility.
