After passing this restaurant ...

After passing this restaurant many times over the years and hearing about its intimate atmosphere, we decided to try it out for an extended family birthday dinner. We arrived around 6:30 on a Sunday and waited a few minutes near the entry for someone to acknowledge or greet us. Finally, a man hurried over and seated us in the outdoor patio area (well heated). Our orders were taken relatively quickly, but I don't exaggerate that it took at least 45 minutes for our salads to arrive, and an hour for the main course. Although one of us received his main course probably 10 minutes before the others. Our server was also the bartender so if we needed something (like salt and pepper or a missing set of silverware), we usually had to either get it ourselves or track him down at the bar. I was also very turned off by the nickel-and-dime feel of the place - everything besides the main course is a la carte. After sitting hungry with two kids for 15 minutes, I asked our waiter if there would be any bread and he said that was extra (an Italian restaurant that charges extra for bread?!). We went ahead and ordered some - thankfully since it took another 20 minutes to arrive. The salads were also extra so the end bill was about $30 more than a truly Italian family restaurant we tried a few months back for another birthday (that did serve complementary bread, a happy birthday dessert for the guest of honor, and brought our food in less than half the time - on a prom night Saturday I might add). And lastly, the capreze salad I ordered was bland and the spaghetti noodles drowning in disappointing sauce. I make better spaghetti at home out of a jar.
