Well, now that "Oriental Village" and 'Kam Loon' are closed, the search is still on for good Chinese food.Ordered last night - April 3. 2012: The "Fried Rice" was just stained, steamed white rice - overcooked. No peas, carrots, green onions or eggs in it. On the positive side, it had about 8 big pieces of BBQ Pork just sitting on the top. Course these were almost made icky by being on top of the chow mein. The 'sweet & sour sauce' was congealing. And didn't taste good. "Chow Mein noodles" were put under my chow mein and completely swollen with sauce & really super YUCK! "Pan fried noodles" were tasteless. "Fortune cookies" were stale and tasteless. Even tho they were in their own little pkgs! "Chow Mein" sauce was thick & almost congealed on its own. I do not recommend this restaurant.

Out of about a dozen Chinese restaurants I have been to all over the northwest, this was the worst. The food is only as good as grocery deli Chinese (about the same price too). The atmosphere is pretty bad, no music, no festive attire on the staff, the menus where ratty, and the whole place needs a facelift. The bathrooms where about as clean as a fast-food joint. Service was horrible! The hostess/waitress only passed by our table once the whole meal, thus our whole group had nothing but one glass of water with no refills. I almost got up to go find a sink. Don+t go here if you are looking for anything better than deli food. Oh, bring your own water or drink!

When my husband and I got engaged and needed a place to stuff envelopes for the wedding invitations, we drove around Eugene looking for a place to eat and work. We drove by The Golden Orient and saw the sign for $7.25 special for 2 or more people, thought it would be your typical greasy chinese food, but as anybody will tell you...sometimes typical greasy chinese sounds just great! The prices are modest, the wait staff is quick and curteous, and the food...the fried rice is the best we've ever had, the shrimp egg rolls are delicious, everything fried tastes like it is fried in fresh oil. And the food never has that "overdone" or "heatlamp" taste of some restaurants that offer a lot of fried food. I can't comment on the interior, the last time we drove by it was closed for remodeling. My husband and I have been married for 4 years and have been back to the Golden Orient about once a month for the last 4 1/2 years, and have never once been disappointed. A must try!!!
