I am a homeschooling mom. Last year, I began to suspect that something was wrong when my 7 year old was still struggling to read and showing signs of Dyslexia. I began to do some research and found Leslie Rosenberg and the Student Learning Recovery Center. Leslie offers free consultations, and spent over an hour on the phone with me, listening to my concerns, asking questions and then giving me an overview of her services. I took him for an evaluation and screening. When he started with her he was at a pre primer/Kindergarten level. In 5 months, going two hours a week, he is now at grade level, doing 2nd grade work! His confidence is increasing as well as his desire to read. Leslie takes a personal interest in the children she tutors. She seeks to find out each child's individual challenges, what their learning style is and what motivates them. She puts homework together and fun online games that all my children enjoy doing. She also takes the time, during our sessions, to train me on what programs or techniques she is using, and will spend additional time with me after our session to talk about my son's progress. My son enjoys going there and my husband and I are so grateful for the success that we have seen in the short time that Leslie has been tutoring our son. We are very happy and would recommend Leslie to anyone who needs this kind of service.

My son started with Student Learning Recovery at the middle of 1st grade due to his low reading levels. At the time when he entered his tutoring program he was a level 5/6. I knew with only 2 quarters left in the school year that the race with time was on. he needed to be at a 15/16 in order to enter the second grade. This means he needed to move up 10 levels by the end of the 4th quarter.

This brought us to Leslie who had to re-teach him how to blend all his sounds together. She started him on decoding words to help with his fluency. He was also learning the tricks of Phonics in order to be able to sound words out himself. The system she put in place worked amazingly. Before long he was decoding words, which allowed him to be able to write them as well. He was managing his spelling through the help of learning the decoding process. This handled many issues for him and work for the first time started to become easier.

Before the end of the school year he had progressed so well that he was actually able to also move up on his math grades due to the fact he could finally read the word problems and come up with the right answer. He did so well that by the last meeting with the teacher 4 weeks prior to school ending he had entered a reading level of 15/16 without any problems.

Now, he is in second grade and is on grade after the 1st quarter and I have been able to take all that Leslie has taught us and apply it at home and he is able to continue the school process without the extra tutoring help. She has been a remarkable help and I would recommend this system to all who struggle with the same issues as I once did with my son.

At the time, my nine year old ...

At the time, my nine year old stepson came to Student Learning Recovery he was essentially a non-reader and had limited word recognition skills. In just a few months, we could already see progress in him.. After seven months of twice per week sessions, my stepson went from being virtually a non-reader to a Level 8 reader and in three months after that, has gone on to a Level 10.

His word recognition and decoding skills have drastically improved during their unique tutoring and therapy program last summer. We have also seen major improvement in his communication, comprehension, and retention skills. Leslie has also provided small writing exercises for him to improve his fine motor skills, resulting in improved handwriting.

Leslie has been invaluable in helping us understand the ways of the school system.
