Dr. Jones joined the Herbert Herman Cancer Center in June 2017. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Utah receiving a B.S. degree in applied physics. He went on to complete medical school training at A.T. Still University as a health professions scholarship recipient with the US Army. Following completion of Internal Medicine internship, he served as a field surgeon with the US Army 4th Infantry Division and received a Bronze Star medal for his service in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon returning from Iraq, Dr. Jones completed his residency training in Radiation Oncology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Throughout this time, he conducted several different research studies including topics such as hormonal therapy in prostate cancer and brachytherapy for cervix cancer which has resulted in journal publication and poster presentation in national meetings. Upon completion of specialty training, Dr. Jones practiced at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) and San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC), serving as deputy clinic chief in both centers. This time included significant involvement in the NCI/NIH/NCC Radiation Oncology Residency program, being awarded ARRO Educator of the Year 2012-2013. He has also been active in cooperative group research trials as a site principal and associate investigator for multiple studies. Dr. Jones is trained in a full complement of radiation treatment modalities including 3-dimensional conformal radiation therapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), proton therapy, stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), gamma knife radiosurgery, high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy, permanent interstitial radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), image guided radiation therapy (IGRT), and radioactive iodine therapy (RAI).
