Established in 1953, Hillcrest Elementary School serves more than 460 students in kindergarten through grade six. Its music curriculum focuses on the development of singing, rhythmic, listening and movement skills of students. The school conducts physical education classes that include calisthenics, muscle coordination activities and games. It also provides the English as a Second Language program for students with limited English proficiency. Hillcrest Elementary School offers a before-school program that provides extra support to students in the areas of reading, math, and written and conversational language. It involves students in band, jazz choir and orchestra. The school has a team of counselors that assists students with personal and social development, as well as provides career guidance. It conducts field trips and vision and audio screenings for students. Located in Lawrence, Kan., Hillcrest Elementary School is a part of Lawrence Public Schools.
