This little place is one of the best kept secret in Rockford, It has been years since I have been in this building and it was under another name.

The place is very small and the décor not much to speak of.

The food was excellent, we did not have a bad dish and the prices are very reasonable.

The drinks were also good.

I would recommend this place to any one.

I recently discovered Mr. J's Bar and Grill. Its a cute and cozy getaway after a long stressful day of work! The staff was all very kind and attentive. I think its great that it is family owned. I've never been to such a clean restaurant!! The food was great. I've been there a few times and try something different every time. My favorite is the homemade spicey chicken eggrolls with there own signiture sauce. I have yet to go on a Friday night but i've heard the fish fry is wonderful and when I was sitting in there chatting with another customer she says she gets the asian cole slaw to go every friday!! I cant wait to try it!

Friday Fish Fry. Save your money. The place is quite small, which is not a bad thing, But .....

we saw at least 4 servers, but the service was so slow. They walked by our empty drinks 5 times and still did not even look to see we needed them. We had to get our own at the bar. Once our order was taken, it took another 40 minutes to get 2 small pieces of way over cooked fish, "asian" coleslaw (which had ramen noodles mixed with a small amount of cabbage and an Asian dressing) which didn't go with the fish at all. Was more like vinegar... not sure. Some people were offered more fish, we were not. Which is good since I found a hair in mine. I don't know if it was all you can eat or not, they didn't say. One waitress offered more to the next table and they were given more. Who knows. Definately will go a different direction next time.
