Community Actions Opportunities, located in Minot, N.D., is a nonprofit organization incorporated in 1975. The organization provides services to more than 50 counties in the region, including services in self-sufficiency, housing, emergency, youth and energy conservation. The self-reliance program assists individuals in taking steps to become self-sufficient through planning, action steps and goal setting. Community action is a certified housing counseling agency. Its counseling programs assist clients in solving housing problems. Community Action, in partnership with the North Dakota Housing Agency, Minot Board of Realtors, area lenders and organization, offers the homebuyer education workshop. This program provides participants with information on the home buying process, such as preparing for home ownership, shopping for a home, obtaining a mortgage, closing, and a life as a homeowner.
