Moline Public Works Department, based in Moline, Ill., consists of six divisions. The divisions comprise building, engineering, fleet maintenance, municipal services, water, and water pollution control. The department s responsibilities include planning, constructing, cleaning, repairing, and maintaining city streets, water infrastructure, sanitary sewers, storm sewers and drains, handling solid waste, maintaining public property, and other related customer and development services. The department works for residents' health and safety by inspecting buildings to prevent hazardous conditions. It also restores and maintains public structures. In addition, it coordinates street work, looks after the city s urban forests; and removes graffiti and illegal signs. The department regulates street and sidewalk use and provides civil engineering services, including project and construction management. It is also responsible for the collection and disposal of solid waste, treatment and distribution of potable water, and transport and treatment of domestic and industrial wastewater. The department has more than 150 employees.
