Provided by YP.comWhen people tell you never to go to a place, they mean it. My boyfriend and I went to The original Shuckers Oyster and Raw Bar over the weekend. It was a Saturday night and most places were busy so we tried this place because it looked like a great place to get a seafood boil and it was not crowded. There was a reason it was not crowded...
Our experience was horrible. We thought we were going to get food poisoning after eating here. Both my boyfriend and I work in the food service industry and have for some time. We have at least an idea of what is right and wrong in restaurants.
II will try, in short, to list most of the red flags that happened when we dined at this establishment. We first arrived and was greeted by (what was going to be our server) a girl sitting in a chair on her cell phone and she told us to have a seat anywhere. The only beers on tap they have are Natural Light and Yuengling. We ordered the crab cake appetizer. This appetizer only comes with one crab cake that is about 3" in diameter and costs around $8. The crab cake tasted good however there was a small bit in the center that was slightly cold. We did not really complain about this because it was cooked and was understandable that they did not leave the crab cake in the fryer long enough. For our entree we ordered the seafood boil steam pot which was suggested for two people. This was the most disappointing and terrifying meal we have ever had. Everything was luke warm. The sausage was frozen in the middle. The oysters were not shucked or cleaned. We had to open the oysters ourselves and when we did, they were green and slimy. We are pretty sure they buy frozen seafood because everything was tiny and still stuck together. There is no way they order fresh seafood in even though they are at the beach. Another hunch we have is that the server was assisting in preparing the food in the kitchen when she said certain statements like, "I don't eat crab cake so I didn't know what to put with it. I just put tarter sauce with it," and "I put lots of lemons and butter [in the steam pot for you]." We ate what we could and after looking at how horrifying unsafe the food was we stopped and told the server about it. She said she would bring us all new food out and talk to her manager about a discount. We said we did not want any more food from there. It probably would come out as a disappointment anyways. The only discount she could give us was 10% off which took off $8 on a tab of around $60. The manager on duty spoke to us about how there was a new cook training and it was the managers fault for not watching him. If you have someone still in training, you do not leave them alone to prepare food especially seafood! This location could make someone extremely sick and possibly die if they keep running their business as is. We left with our pitiful discount and still tipped the server because we understand it is not her fault, however she did completely forget to get my boyfriend another beer he ordered.
No one should ever go here. If you do, don't say you weren't warned.
