Scott Steidl, M.D. is a Vitreoretinal Surgeon at Eyecare Medical Group in Portland, Maine who specializes in the treatment of Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinal Detachment, Macular Holes and Macular Pucker. Dr. Steidl earned his Medical Degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York followed by a Residency in Ophthalmology at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the Harvard Medical School Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and at the Schepens Eye Research Institute in Boston. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and certified by and a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Before joining EMG, Dr. Steidl was Vice Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Maryland and Principal Investigator of the Early Treatment for Retinopathy Study there. He has also been an investigator on projects involving the study of telemedicine and retinal adhesives. Dr. Steidl is co-author or co-editor of four books in the field of ophthalmology. His interests outside of medicine include music composition. He is a Juilliard School-trained composer, holding a doctoral degree from that institution. He resides with his family in Cape Elizabeth.
