I took my 2001 Dodge 2500 4x4 in to have the ball joints replaced. Got a decent price estimated. I had heard that this could be a difficult job, so I asked if they have had trouble with them, as in, is this price realistic, or should I expect some extra labor charges. The tech told me it shouldn't be a problem. During the work I called and was told that they had been "beating and banging" (Tom's words) on that front end for most of the day and hadn't gotten the first one off yet. I knew I was in trouble at that point. Well in the end, they ruined both of my hubs getting them off so I had to spend an extra $550 for new ones. They also were to have the front end aligned while it was in. I know this was not done because the alignment keys on the lower control arms wouldn't move before I took it in, and were still stuck in the same position when I got the truck back. You can't do an alignment without adjusting the camber on a truck that has had lift springs installed (I did that myself a little while back). I know that he didn't do the alignment in-house, but he is responsible for his sub-contractor's work.

All in all Tom is a nice guy to deal with, but he shouldn't take on jobs his crew can't do. Or maybe look online for some instructions when they don't know how to do something. I found a good video on youtube, but it was a little late.

I now have (4500 miles later) a grinding sound in the front left. I haven't taken it apart yet but I know I won't be going back to TPS to have it looked at.
