Seafood Fit For A Queen

As a child, I remember my parents bringing me with them to buy our fish and shrimp from the old downtown Frank Mathews Seafood Market. It was a smelly place, but my mom could turn the flounder and shrimp into a meal fit for the Queen. When Frank closed his doors years later, my dad "floundered" around the county looking for a suitable replacement. That never happened until he learned cousins of Frank were opening Mathews Seafood off Hwy. 80 in West Chatham County! He became a regular customer for Mathews Seafood. In fact, I drove him to Mathews for some fresh fish a few months before his death in 2008 at age 81. I visited Mathews Seafood today, which was my first time in the store since my dad died. When I entered the store, I wasn't greeted with the old fishy smell. I immediately saw their offerings from lobsters, varied fresh fish, oysters, crab meat, and the beautiful shrimp I came to buy. They also had all the well-known spices, hot sauces, you know the fixins you need when boiling shrimp or crabs. they even had an oyster roaster that can be rented or purchased with the appropriate eating tools. The store was very clean, and the young man who assisted me asked several times if I needed ice for my shrimp. He was very polite. By the end of the day, I had prepared a boiled shrimp meal for my family, and it was still fit for a Queen--amazingly, the same Queen!!!
