Windshield chip repair is the process of filling in the chip and minor cracks thereby restoring strength and integrity of the windshield. In order for this to happen the air that has been trapped inside the windshield's laminate, and the two panes of glass must be removed. This is done by having resin forced into the chip and after a cycle of pushing the resin in. A small vacuum cycle is used to pull out the air, and this continues until the chip is completely full. Once the chip is full of the resin, the technician then uses UV light to cause a chemical change to the resin. The change causes the resin to harden which holds the glass together restoring the integrity of the windshield. Once the resin has harden the last step is to add a pit sealer to keep unwanted dirt out of the impact site and clean up. After the technician leaves you may still see the initial impact site. This is normal, but be rest assured that the repair is done and the chip will not spread.
