The Right of Way Division is owned and operated by the Utah Department of Transportation, which is responsible for more than 6,000 miles of highways. The division acquires properties needed for highway purposes and relocates displaced businesses and people. It is also responsible for the management of acquired properties and the oversight of local government highway projects using state and federal funds. The Right of Way Division maintains a scanning and mapping unit that maintains, transmits and distributes transportation plans for interstate highways and state routes. It also issues state highway access permits according to the Utah law. The Right of Way Division is located in Salt Lake City.
