There is NOWHERE East of Chicago that has better Italian Beef sandwiches or Vienna Red Hots! My whole family is comprised of Chicago-area transplants (most now live in Florida) and I take them to Hippo's EVERYTIME the visit! Actually, at this point, some of them actually ASK to stop there on the way to my house from the airport! I've introduced many people from this area to this place and they are instant converts. The store is family-owned and they take pride in their food and are VERY friendly. It is a small place with a few places to sit, but clean and inviting. It is the ONLY place in the Detroit area (of any type of restaraunt) that I automatically think *five stars." I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Get an Italian Beef, fries and a Dr. Brown's Cream Soda and you won't be sorry.

The Hippo Dog is great. It is a Chicago style hot dog with all the fixins. It is great. Small location but great food!!
