Dr. Fitzgerald chose to practice family medicine because it allows him the opportunity to get to know patients over a lifetime. As medicine in general continues to get more complex and specialized, he is able to build strong relationships with patients and to see them through all stages of life, illness and wellness. Dr. Fitzgerald enjoys the variety family medicine provides and has special interests in preventative medicine and hearing loss.“Growing up in a small village I saw the local family doctor as an integral part of our community, but I didn't think people like me became physicians,” says Dr. Fitzgerald. However, after some time in an unfulfilling job led him to contemplate a career change, he realized medicine needed many voices. He was inspired to lend his to a community. “The variety of interactions I have with an incredibly diverse community of people who all have a unique story to tell is what gets me up every morning.”When Dr. Fitzgerald isn’t in the office, he enjoys running, cycling, hiking, restoring furniture and spending time with family.My focus is on providing a medically appropriate care plan that is tailored to each person at every visit. I believe this can only be achieved by listening and getting to know the person, not just the patient. These long-term relationships with individuals and the communities they are a part of are why I love family medicine.
