Educational Service Unit 1, also known as ESU 1, operates under the jurisdiction of the Nebraska Department of Education. ESU 1 serves children through various K-12 schools in Cedar, Dakota, Dixon, Knox, Thurston and Wayne counties in northeast Nebraska. It is an educational unit that provides services to Nebraska children through local school districts. It provides a wide range of services, including audiological testing, cooperative purchase, developmental programs for students with mental disabilities, early childhood special education, equipment repair service, and media and delivery. It also offers Internet and technology training programs for behaviorally challenged students, psychological educational evaluations, and speech, occupational and physical therapies. In addition, it offers para-educator services, teacher in-service and staff development, and transitional and vision consultancy. Educational Service Unit 1 is located in Wakefield, Neb.
