The Arizona Department of Corrections, also known as ADC, is operated by the government of the State of Arizona. The department has been in operation for more than 35 years. It is responsible for the supervision of over 4,000 inmates. The department operates nearly 10 prisons, as well as a recruitment unit. The Arizona Department of Corrections also operates the Southern Arizona Correctional Release Center for women. In addition, it maintains correctional facility and private prisons. The department is responsible for the incarceration of up to 34,000 inmates. The Arizona Department of Corrections administers the Correctional Officers Training Academy (COTA).
