Dusty R. Melvin, 33, pleaded guilty in Muskingum County Common Pleas Court to attempted child endangering, a fourth-degree felony. He faces a maximum of 18 months in prison and a maximum fine of $5,000. As part of a plea agreement, a felonious assault charge will be dismissed at his sentencing.
The state also agreed to make no recommendation with regard to sentencing.
The abuse allegedly took place while Melvin was in regular contact with the victim, a 9-year-old boy, from October 2013 to October 2014, Assistant Muskingum County Prosecutor Gerald Anderson said in court. The abuse began when the boy was 9 and continued after he turned 10 years old, officials said.
Melvin was indicted in October 2015 for abuse that reportedly took place between July 2014 and September 2014.

Melvin would inflict the abuse as punishment, Anderson said. He would hit the victim in the back of the head, stomp on his feet and punch him in the kidneys, he said, adding that the strikes to the kidneys resulted in bloody urination. At one point, Melvin allegedly threw an Xbox controller at the boy, although the controller missed.
As a result of the reported abuse, the victim suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder; conversion disorder, in which he began to manifest his mental stress as physical symptoms and ailments; and psychogenic nonepileptic seizures, Anderson said.
"The victim had a number a medical issues he had to go to the hospital for," Anderson said.
The victim was threatened to not tell anyone about the abuse, and the boy later told officials he was afraid that if he had told someone, the abuse would have gotten worse, Anderson said.
Melvin's sentencing will take place at a later date.

I have had Dusty maintain my pool work for eight years and he has always done an excellant job. Dusty has always been honest with me about repairs and has never come to my house on his breath. He is a very professional man! I think there is more to the story than an meets the eye.

I am totally at a lose of words of such a mislead story. I pride myself in my work, mostly why my business name is Pride Pools Spas and Services LLC. I have "Never"did things like this to a customer. I have "Never" cost people they didn't have to spend. I am a straight up honest hard working guy that treats every job as it is my own. I have had a couple jobs that didn't go smoothly and lost money just to make sure the customer is happy and satisfied! I do not recall you or the job. Therefore if you have a squawk with me or my work or even question my work, I think you should have brought this to my attention. Because I have happy customers and do not recall having any squawks with any one. I do not drink on the job nor do I go to a job site having consumed alcohol. It really saddens me for such a story to be made up due to this could destroy my reputation that I have worked so hard for and still strive for excellence everyday! Dusty doesn't even deserve a star at all!!

Dusty Melvin showed up to our house with booze on his breath. He was here to open our pool and in the process he found a hole in our liner that wasn't there before. I know this because he took a phone call on the side of our house right by my open bathroom window and he was bragging to someone that he put a hole in our liner and a new liner change was in the bag. Also because of how he was acting, I had my friend do a back ground check and he has a criminal history. Do not let this man in your driveway. He got very upset when I confronted him and told him I heard what he said and he said he was talking about another customer. So I paid his bill with a check to his company when he was demanding cash so he wouldn't have to report taxes!! Sad that if he sabotaged our pools and then claims he was talking about another pool he did this too. Call anyone else but him and look up his criminal record. I told him I was going to use another company and he started running his mouth on two of his competitors. Just not good business. If you use him, do not give him cash. Get records of everything and take before pictures before he comes out. Not an honest person at all. I work at the hospital and I'm referring the other company I went with. They did great and honest work!! Very shocked about him being drunk on a job and hearing him bragging about ripping someone else off which I still think he was talking about us. One more thing, I later found out that he is following his competitors and sabotaging their jobs and next thing you know, he is at your door to help. He did it to two of my friends. He is a dirty shark!!!
